WHAT IS PEWTER?

pewterlive2015.jpg

Modern pewter is an alloy consisting of mainly tin with a small amount of copper. It doesn’t contain lead unlike old pewter which means it’s safe for use with food and doesn’t tarnish.

The pewter industry is regulated by the guild of The Worshipful Company of Pewterers. Ella regularly exhibits her work at the Worshipful Company of Pewterers hall, London and there her work received two awards in 2016

Pewtersmiths use a touch marking system to mark their pieces. Ella uses her signature stamped into the pewter to sign her handcrafted work.

Pewter can be crafted using a variety of skilled techniques. Ella uses a combination of pewter ingots and sheet metal to cast, hammer, forge, solder and polish to achieve her contemporary designs.

AFTERCARE

To take care of your pewter we recommend it should be washed in warm soapy water and dried straight away using a soft cloth. Pewter is not suitable for the dishwasher.

Modern pewter is an alloy consisting mainly of tin with a small amount of copper. It doesn’t contain lead unlike old pewter which means it’s safe for use with food and doesn’t tarnish.

The copper elements used on some products are coated which means they are also food safe and unlike traditional copperware won’t require re-polishing.
